This year, the Freeport Public Schools Summer Arts Academy put on a thrilling performance titled “Super Scary Summer Academy of the Arts,” showcasing the dedication, enthusiasm, and musical talents of over 100 Freeport students. Attendees of the district’s free summer arts academy explored new music, honed their instrumental abilities, and rehearsed a show that highlighted various spooky fine arts.

In the dimly lit auditorium of Caroline G. Atkinson Intermediate School, board of education members, administrators, staff, families, and community members were treated to a parade of zombies, witches, wizards, and other eerie creatures.

The show featured performances from the band, chorus, dance team, mariachi band, orchestra, step team, and summer program interns. Students also presented skits demonstrating the theatrical arts skills they acquired during the academy. Another highlight was an art exhibit and slideshow showcasing student-created artwork and sculptures.

The Freeport School District has earned the Best Communities for Music Education Award from the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation for the seventh year in a row. This year’s “Super Scary Summer Academy of the Arts” performance exemplifies why the district continues to receive this esteemed recognition.
