Driver arrested for Freeport hit-and run that killed a 66-year-old resident

The Nassau County Homicide Squad reports that a serious vehicular accident on Wednesday, March 25, at 8:10 p.m. in Freeport, has killed pedestrian Narciso Guerra Lopez, 66, who was a Freeport resident. 

According to Nassau detectives, Lopez was crossing Merrick Road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling eastbound. Lopez sustained serious physical injuries and was transported to a local area hospital. Officials reported on April 4, that Lopez had succumbed to his injuries and died. 

The Nassau County Homicide Squad has also reported the arrest of an "undomiciled" man, Michael Bonner, 40, in connection to the hit-and-run accident. Bonner is being charged with leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death and tampering with physical evidence in the second degree. 

If convicted of both charges, Bonner could face over a decade of prison time pending any additional charges. 

Bonner will be arraigned on Sunday, April 5, at the First District Court at 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
