Rory Anderson, a Freeport man, was arrested by Freeport and Nassau County police officers for allegedly exposing himself to a young girl back in July. He was arraigned shortly after his arrest on Sept. 4.
The Special Victim Squad of the Nassau County Police Department worked in conjunction with the Freeport Police Department to perform the arrest after receiving reports of Anderson, 32, allegedly committing public lewdness on July 29 in Freeport.
According to detectives, the alleged incident occurred at a Marshalls retail store on East Sunrise Highway at around 8:30 p.m. while a 5-year-old girl and her mother were shopping in the store.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, the girl noticed an unknown man exposing his genitals and immediately notified her mother. The child's mother contacted the police, yet the alleged offender was not arrested for over a month.
After further investigation, Anderson, who lives on South Bayview Avenue in Freeport, was arrested by the two police departments with incident.
Anderson has been charged with public lewdness and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned at the First District Court in Hempstead.
If convicted for public lewdness in the first degree, Anderson could be required to join the sex offender registry under New York state law in addition to further sentencing consequences.
Detectives request that anyone who feels that they have been victimized by Anderson please contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS or call 911. All callers will be allowed to remain anonymous.
