The Roosevelt Union Free School District welcomed its newest Board of Education member this month, student Destynee Allen, who will serve as an ex-officio member for the 2026-2027 school year.
Allen, a senior at Roosevelt High School, has been described as an active member of the school community who should bring valuable student perspective to the board.
Academically, Allen has excelled in addition to participating in several extra-curricular activities. She has maintained over a 90 grade point average on a 100 point scale, earning High Honor Roll recognition while taking multiple Advance Placement courses during her time at Roosevelt High School.
She is also a member of the school’s girls varsity swim team and girls varsity lacrosse team.
Allen has been involved in student government and fundraising efforts for the school and is a member of the National Honor Society. She participates in the Science and Technology Entry Program where she and other students explore scientific concepts through hands-on activities and educational field trips.
“I was inspired to serve on the board to be a voice for students,” Allen said in a press release. “My goal is to encourage more students to join the Student Advisory Committee and work together to find ways to improve our school. Thank you to the Board of Education and district administration for this opportunity to be a part of the board. I look forward to representing my peers throughout the year.”
Per New York state law, an ex-officio student member is a non-voting participant on a board of education that is tasked with representing the entire student body of the school district. Such members are entitled to sit with board trustees during all public meetings and hearings while not participating in executive sessions and all other non-public gatherings.
