The Sunrise Highway, also known as New York State Route 27, will be subject to lane closures overnight for the next four weeks. The effected area of the highway includes the entire portion that resides in Freeport.
The New York State Department of Transportation sent out an advisory on July 31 to advise motorists of the construction that will be occurring across Nassau and Suffolk counties. Two eastbound lanes on Sunrise Highway between Harrison Avenue in the Town of Hempstead and County Line Road, also known as County Road 1, in. the Town of Babylon.
The closures will occur each night from Sunday to Thursday between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The first night of closures began on Monday, Aug. 3. The Department of Transportation estimates that it will take approximately four weeks to facilitate the pavement renewal project that the closures are to be used for. Construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change based on outdoor conditions.
