The Zion Cathedral Church of God in Christ in Freeport hosted the return of its long awaited International Street Festival. The event brought food, fellowship and plenty of fun for Freeport residents and other attendees.

The festival, held on Aug. 15 on Lakeview Avenue, also known as Bishop Frank O. White Avenue after the church’s former spiritual leader, brought out many attendees and local organizations.

Various food trucks, vendors and other shopping booths were available for small businesses and established groups to display and sell their goods in an inviting environment.

This year’s event celebrated its 28th installment after having been on a hiatus since 2020 due to the Covid-19 global pandemic. Organizers said that the festival’s return marked the “resilience, restoration and the unbreakable spirit” of the church and Freeport’s diverse community.

Prior to the event Bishop Frank A. White, senior pastor of Zion Cathedral, noted the festival’s significance to the church and village community.

“The International Street Festival has always been a reflection of who we are, a diverse, vibrant and connected community,” he said.
