Gold Coast Business Association hosts car show, Trunk-orTreat

More than 400 people turned out for the Gold Coast Business Association’s third annual car show. The event, held on the last Saturday in October, fell on Halloween this year and included Trunk-or-Treat, where children had the opportunity to collect candy.

The business association began holding the event three years ago when then-President Terrence Keniff asked Jeannie Riccardo if she could organize a car show for October.

“It ended up being a huge success,” said Riccardo, current business association president.

The event is held at Glen Head Station. Riccardo described using that location as “very special” because it is local and allowed community involvement.

“My goal as president,” she said, “is to incorporate the businesses, get them more involved with the community and get the community more interactive.”

The car show and Trunk-or-Treat event was advertised on social media and through North Shore School District. The high school’s Key Club, advised by Kiwanis board member Julia Salat, helped with the event’s setup.

Nearly 100 cars, gathered largely through Facebook advertising and help from sponsors like Ultimate Auto Body and Victory Restoration & Cleaning, were included this year.

Members of the business association, like Glen Head Martial Arts and Fitness and Little Bumble Bee Daycare, were vendors during the event and American Legion Post 336 served food throughout. Advocates against the Propel NY Energy project also had a booth.

Riccardo said that for next year, she hopes to have more vendors and more cars at the event. She also thanked the events’ sponsors and donors.

“I’m so glad that everybody rallies together to make this a special day,” Riccardo said, “and people seem to give us a lot of great feedback. So, you can’t have anything without our local businesses doing it.”

The business association will hold its Christmas tree and Menorah lighting on Dec. 2.
