Hempstead man charged with sexual abuse

A Hempstead man was arrested on Jan. 2 for the alleged sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl, Nassau police said.

Jose Amaya, 56, of South Franklin Street, a self-employed driver, allegedly had what the police called “inappropriate contact, with teenager on more than one occasion while driving the girl to and from school.  

On that Tuesday, police said that there was an argument between Amaya and the girl’s parents, when they learned of the alleged abuse.

Police responded to the call and after the subsequent investigation arrested Amaya.

He is charged with sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

Amaya will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Jan. 3.
