The Long Beach Public Library, in conjunction with the Long Beach Arts Council, will be hosting a free showing of the "Much Ado About Nothing" on June 28. The EastLine Theatre will put on the performance as part of their Shakespeare Across Long Island tour, bringing live, professional theatre to libraries, parks and museums throughout the area.

Susan Gallo, a Long Beach resident and homeschool teacher, along with her Bioswale Club, have created a nearly life-size sculpture of a whale at the former site of the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach. The monument was built primarily of plastic bags, bottles and bottle caps that were taken off the beach during cleanups, and it was publicly revealed on June 8, World Ocean Day, after nearly two months of assembly.

More than 300 students put a punctuation mark on their senior year at Long Beach High School with a traditional commencement ceremony on June 11. Family, friends, students and staff took over Alumni Field for an afternoon of speeches and celebration.

For two days, student artists took over the Long Beach High School gymnasium as the district-wide art show returned for its annual display. More than 1,000 pieces of artwork — from intricate sculptures to detailed pencil drawings — created an impressive gallery for the evening of May 29 and the morning and early afternoon of May 30.

Odyssey of the Mind could be one of the most interesting and challenging competitions a school can enter. Combining problem solving, creative thinking, theatrical performance, technology, engineering and sometimes music, students compete to solve unique scenarios. This year, the Long Beach Elementary team for Problem 3 came home from the world finals in Ames, Iowa with a rank of first in the world for long-term performance and a rank of 8th in the world overall.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly has announced an indictment for Heather Magone, a Long Beach resident. Magone was charged with attempted kidnapping in the second degree, endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment, and faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. On May 28, Magone appeared in Nassau County Court before Judge Robert Bogle, where she pleaded not guilty.

The Kelly Forman Team at Compass opened their brand-new office at 38 West Park Ave., Suite 200, in Long Beach. Forman and her six-person team joined Compass Real Estate in December 2021.
