On May 17, Long Beach saw its first organized “No Kings” rally as nearly 200 citizens gathered at Kennedy Plaza. The crowd displayed homemade signs to cars passing by West Park Avenue, with many drivers honking in support.

Nassau County Legislator Patrick Mullaney, the Long Beach Police Department and the Kiwanis Club of Long Beach coordinated the third annual bike safety rodeo on May 17, helping more than 70 local children, from 4 to 12 years old, learn how to ride with safety in mind at all times.

The barrier island's north shore experienced a brief influx of contaminants after wastewater from the city's treatment plan overflowed into Reynolds Channel on May 17. Nearly 30,000 gallons of partially treated wastewater spilled out of a primary tank at the facility. Roughly 10,000 gallons were cleaned up on-site, with the remaining overflow finding its way into the channel via storm drains, where it eventually diluted into the waterway.
