Long Beach pride is shining as bright as gold thanks to hometown hero Charlie McAvoy and Team USA. The men’s hockey team captured the gold medal at the Winter Olympics last Sunday with a nail-biting win in overtime, defeating Team Canada 2-1. It’s the first U.S. gold in men’s hockey since the “Miracle on Ice,” when the American team earned a hard-fought win over the Soviet Union on Feb 22, 1980 — 46 years ago to the day. more

While it takes an army to keep the city safe, it might not be possible without Special Officer Jaime Price, who works in the traffic division, spending most of her time looking for gaps in coverage. In Dec. 2025, the Nassau County Bar Association awarded a $5,000 grant to Long Island Reach, the multi-service agency offering counseling, treatment and educational services to families across Nassau County. The organization offers a range of resources to support the community, and the grant funding will be reinvested into basic operating expenses to continue delivering its programs. The WE CARE fund is the charitable arm of the Nassau County Bar Association. more
