Lynbrook senior Olivia Vuotto said she never thought about playing football, but jumped at the chance to become a kicker for the varsity team when head coach Stephen LoCicero approached her. Now she’s making history one kick at a time as the only girl to ever score points for the Owls on the gridiron.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently released a draft report for the Nassau County Coastal Storm Risk Management Study, which outlines a tentatively selected plan that includes East Rockaway and Lynbrook. It would include elevating more than 14,000 homes and flood-proofing more than 2,500 industrial and commercial properties across the South Shore to mitigate the risk of flood damage during storms.

The Lynbrook Owls commemorated the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with a day of reflection and remembrance on Saturday, which included the high school’s first varsity football game of the season. There was a patriotic theme throughout the festivities, which included a fundraiser that netted more than $2,500 for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
