A Queens man surrendered to police after an attempted murder on Sunday morning in Lynbrook.

According to Nassau County Police Department 5th Squad detectives, Lester Achaibar, 30, of Lindenwood, entered a residence on Rolling Street, using a key. He then assaulted his estranged wife’s boyfriend, using a knife from the kitchen to slash the 36-year-old man on the torso, causing a five-inch laceration.

When the victim, whom police did not identify, ran and locked himself in the bathroom, Achaibar fired a gunshot through the bathroom wall. The victim was not hit, police said, and Achaibar left the residence.

“[Achaibar] came into the home he had not lived in, [and] found the wife and her friend,” NCPD Sgt. Kenneth Catalani explained on Tuesday. “A fight ensued and the friend was stabbed. During the altercation, a shot was fired and threats were made.”

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for stab wounds and later released, Catalani said.

Achaibar turned himself in to detectives the next day. He was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
