Woman arrested after striking vehicle
An East Rockaway woman was arrested on Dec. 22 at 12:11 a.m. after police say she intentionally struck a man’s vehicle with her vehicle and fled the scene on Lawson Avenue in East Rockaway.
According to Nassau County detectives, Lauren Dwyer, 20, of Smith Street, approached two males, ages 19 and 18 respectively, on Smith Street in East Rockaway. The 19-year-old and was seated in his 2002 Volkswagen with his friend, police said, when an argument ensued between he and Dwyer.
Dwyer then left the scene in a 1996 Jeep but returned shortly thereafter. When the victim attempted to leave in his vehicle Dwyer positioned her car not allowing him to pull away from the curb. The victim then reversed his car and was followed by the defendant eastbound on Smith Street to northbound Lawson Avenue. Dwyer then intentionally struck the victim’s vehicle with her Jeep causing the Volkswagen to mount a curb and strike a tree in front of 47 Lawson Avenue. The defendant then fled the scene in her vehicle eastbound on Smith Street.
Fourth Precinct police officers responded to the scene and after an investigation placed Dwyer into custody at Lawson Avenue and Smith Street. Her vehicle was impounded and no injuries were reported.
Dwyer was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an incident without report and insufficient headlights. She was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead Dec. 22.
Man arrested for resisting arrest
The Highway Patrol Bureau reported the arrest of a Far Rockaway man for resisting arrest that occurred on Sunday, Dec. 29 at 3:28 a.m. in Lynbrook.
According to police, the defendant Thomas E. Shaw, of Beach Street, was stopped for a vehicle and traffic law infraction on Sunrise Highway and Peninsula Boulevard.
During the investigation Shaw was handcuffed and placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. He pushed away from the arresting officer, police said, causing him to fall and began to flee on foot.
