Funeral held at Our Lady of Peace Church in Lynbrook

Funeral services were held for former Lynbrook Fire Department Chief James McDermott who died two weeks ago at the age of 55. The Oceanside native served twice as the chief of the Lynbrook Fire Department.

McDermott was hired by the New York City Police Department in June of 1983 and retired as a sergeant 1995. He joined Rescue Hook, Ladder & Bucket Company No. 1 of the Lynbrook Fire Department in 1980 and was elected captain of Truck Company in 1989. He served as a trustee of the company from 1992 until 2016.

He is survived by his siblings Joseph, Ann, Debra, Michael, Thomas, Patrick and Mark; and his three children Alyssa, James and Sean, and a grandson, Logan.
