Out of ICU, 'getting stronger' for operation

Lynbrook Mayor Bill Hendrick will undergo heart surgery in the next week or two, said Deputy Mayor Alan Beach. Hendrick, who has been a patient at Winthrop University Hospital since April 29, was moved from the intensive care unit into a regular room, Beach confirmed.

“He is feeling better, and being scheduled for surgery,” Beach said. “They are waiting for him to get stronger.”

Trustee Michael Hawxhurst said on May 16 that Hendrick is feeling well. “He is up and about, talkative,” he said, “but they are still doing tests and waiting for results.”

Beach took over the mayoral responsibilities during Monday’s regular village board meeting, and gave an update on Hendrick’s condition. “He told me not to get comfortable in his chair,” Beach said jokingly. “He wants to return as soon as possible.”

Audience members expressed concern and sent their well wishes for Hendrick. “We wish him a speedy recovery,” Beach added.

Further details of the upcoming surgery were not finalized as of press time.
