Mount Sinai Hospital parking lot proposal hearing delayed

Tensions ran high at a recent Hempstead Town Board of Appeals meeting as residents from Oceanside were left disheartened by the adjournment of a hearing concerning a parking lot proposal. The proposal, spearheaded by Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital, aims to demolish homes on hospital property to make room for a 152-spot parking lot. The delay has pushed the hearing to May 15.

The hospital's expansion plans also include the construction of an 800-spot multi-level parking garage, already approved, which will occupy space atop an existing parking lot. Hospital officials contend that additional parking is necessary to compensate for the loss of the current lot. And reassured ongoing communication is taking place with neighbors.

Despite plans to incorporate greenery around the proposed parking lot, residents emphasize the need for a more personal touch from the hospital.

Town of Hempstead officials confirmed that Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital had requested the postponement of the hearing until May 15.
