Woman found dead in Lynbrook; man arrested
Victim suffered gunshot to head, found in Merrick Road parking lot
Homicide Squad detectives report the arrest of Dung V. Tran, 38, of Front St., Hempstead, in connection with the death of Maria Ayala 62, of Hempstead.
Detectives arrested Tran at his residence last Sunday.
According to Nassau County homicide detectives, on Sunday, May 1 at 8:30 a.m., a Lynbrook police officer on routine patrol observed Ayala with an apparent gunshot wound to the head, dead in the driver’s seat of a 1991 Toyota Corolla parked at 266 Merrick Road. The victim was pronounced dead at 8:40 a.m. She and the vehicle were removed from the scene by the Nassau County Crime Squad.
Tran is being charged with Murder 2nd Degree and Fugitive from Justice (open warrant in Virginia) and was arraigned on Tuesday in First District Court, Hempstead.
