Last summer, when the bicycle path running from Cedar Creek Park in Wantagh to Jones Beach was extended another 3.6 miles to reach the entrance of Tobay Beach in Massapequa, many heralded the project as a great addition to the distinctive recreational options available to Long Islanders. But then Oyster Bay town residents began to complain about errant bicyclists in the Tobay parking lot and beach areas. So fences were put up, a turnstile was installed, and a locked gate was put in last month to allow pedestrians access, but to keep bicyclists out. more

Ausberto Huertas, better known in Malverne as Ozzie, has his hands full as superintendent of the village’s Building Department, Malverne volunteer firefighter, husband, father of three small boys and recent recipient of a master’s degree — his second — in civil engineering and transportation management, from New York University. more
Rumors have been circulating for the past two months that Malverne Mayor Patricia McDonald has been urged to run for higher office — Town of Hempstead supervisor, the town council or the Nassau County Legislature’s 6th District seat. McDonald, who has confirmed to the Herald that the rumors are true, has not said whether she would run for any of these positions, all of which are up for election in November. more
This past Monday, New York American Water began the task of replacing 8,100 feet of water main in Malverne. The effort will focus on main replacement on Malverne Ave., Nassau Ave., Ogston Terrace, Norwood Ave., and many of their cross streets. Work is expected to last at least a month’s time. more
It’s finally spring time after a long , hard winter, and that’s a relief for many in our area who are waiting for the promises of of the season: warmer climes, flowering trees — and the New York American Water company’s pledge to replace aged water mains on select Malverne streets. more
