Bellmore woman charged in alleged theft from 95-year-old West Hempstead resident

A Bellmore woman has been charged with stealing cash from a 95-year-old West Hempstead resident while working as the victim’s home health aide, according to Nassau County police.

Police said the incident occurred on July 11 at about 6:39 p.m. Detectives said the 60-year-old home health aide was captured on home surveillance video removing a locked black box containing U.S. currency from the victim’s home.

The victim’s son later reviewed the surveillance footage, discovered the alleged theft and contacted the Nassau County Police Department.

Following an investigation by the department’s Electronics Squad and Fraud & Forgery Section, detectives arrested Madeline Barranco, 60, of Bellmore.

Barranco, of 130 Linden St., was charged with third-degree grand larceny. She was arraigned on July 23 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Police did not disclose the amount of money allegedly stolen. The investigation is continuing.
