The Lakeview Public Library received $100,000 to help expand its facilities and transform its unfinished upper floors into usable space for residents. The investment will support improvements aimed at making better use of the building while addressing the community’s educational and accessibility needs.

The library’s second and third floors remain unfinished and require additional work before they can be fully utilized. The funding is intended to help move the expansion forward, providing resources for improvements that would allow the library to accommodate more programs, activities and educational opportunities.

Among the potential uses for the funding are addressing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance issues, making necessary facility upgrades and purchasing capital resources. These could include books, private study pods and other educational materials and equipment that support the library’s mission.

The expansion would provide additional space for children, seniors and adults to access educational tools, participate in after-school learning and gather for community activities. The goal is to create an environment where residents of different ages can share resources and take advantage of opportunities close to home.

The funding also responds to community interest in an expanded library with facilities that better meet residents’ educational needs. Additional space could help the library accommodate patrons seeking places to study, participate in programs and engage in shared learning activities.

“It’s much appreciated and much needed,” Director Camina Raphaël-Lubin said. “Being that Lakeview is a small hamlet, every little bit of money we can get for construction and capital improvements to the building is something we greatly appreciate and really need.”

Assemblyman Noah Burroughs is providing the funding to support the project. Burroughs said the unfinished second and third floors present an opportunity to expand the library’s available space and improve its ability to serve the Lakeview community.

“This is just a step,” Burroughs said. “We know that the library will continue needing funding, so in the future, I do look to assist with funding where I can and where they need the help.”

He described the investment as a step toward addressing the library’s need for additional space and providing residents with more opportunities for education and community engagement.

While the funding will help move the project forward, Burroughs acknowledged that the library will need continued financial support to complete future improvements. He expressed his intention to assist with additional funding whenever possible and wherever the Lakeview Public Library needs help.

The investment represents an initial step in the library’s expansion efforts, with the broader goal of making more of its facilities available for community use. Through improvements to its building and educational resources, the Lakeview Public Library will have an opportunity to better accommodate residents and provide a shared space for learning across generations.

“We just really are thankful to our local elected officials for always keeping us in mind and always coming through for us,” Raphaël-Lubin said.
