Lakeview families gathered Aug. 26 for “Unity in the Community,” a back-to-school celebration organized to connect children with school supplies, activities and community resources before the start of the school year.
Presented by Believe at Bellaire and Go Party on Demand, the event brought together local churches, businesses and community organizations. Organizers had collected more than 1,000 backpacks for students in kindergarten through 12th grade and planned to distribute school supplies and 100 pairs of sneakers.
The six-hour celebration also featured activities for children, including bounce houses, face painting, arts and crafts, sports activities and live entertainment - including a circus. Free haircuts and braiding were also planned as part of the event.
Organizers invited local first responders to participate, including the Nassau County Police Department’s 5th Precinct and the Lakeview Fire Department.
Families could also connect with organizations offering information about health insurance, domestic violence services, health screenings and other community resources.
Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages joined Believe at Bellaire and Go Party on Demand in welcoming the community to the event, “For families across Nassau County, back-to-school season is an incredibly momentous occasion, but it can be a source of strain for family budgets, especially at a time of economic uncertainty and rising costs,” Solages said. “That is why the work that is being done by Believe at Bellaire and Go Party on Demand, and all of their sponsors is so incredibly important.”
The event was designed to bring different parts of Lakeview together while helping families prepare children for the school year.
