West Hempstead bakery caters Knicks’ championship celebration

Impromptu call led to once-in-a-lifetime opportunity

Sunday, June 14 was an eventful day for Sydney and Jermaine Perry, co-CEOs of West Hempstead bakery Sydney’s Sweets. “Around noon, we got a call from Anthony Totten, a hospitality professional for the Knicks players and the hospitality director for Flyfish Club, a members-only club in Manhattan,” Jermaine said. “He wanted something special for the team for their first official celebration in New York.”

After baking the treats for the team on a strict six-hour deadline, the Perrys were invited to stay at the event and celebrate with the team at the exclusive club. “It was just the team, significant others, friends, and team owners,” Jermaine said. “It was amazing just seeing the players be regular people as if they were celebrating a more ‘regular’ special moment.”

The Perrys are native New Yorkers and lifelong Knicks fans, so the gravity of this moment was not lost on them. “For us to be waiting our whole lives for the Knicks to win a championship, and then us being called to celebrate with them, it just made the moment so surreal,” Jermaine said. “We were planning on closing the store on Thursday to go to parade, but after that experience on Sunday, we felt like we didn't need to go to the parade.”
