Malverne police car hits guardrail during funeral procession

While acting as an escort during a funeral procession, a Malverne police vehicle struck a guardrail while traveling near exit 17N on the Southern State Parkway this morning, state police said. One officer was in the car at the time.

Photos taken at the scene show the front and side airbags of the police vehicle were deployed.

The officer was taken to Winthrop University Hospital to be treated for neck and back pain.

The accident occurred around 11:15 a.m., state police said, and no other car was involved in the accident.
