The Malverne School District is celebrating another milestone in student philanthropy after Maurice W. Downing Primary School students raised $4,500 for Ronald McDonald House Long Island through a yearlong, student-led fundraising campaign. The latest donation brings the school’s total contributions to more than $50,000 since launching its partnership with the organization in 2017.
Led by Student Council faculty advisers Amanda Correia and Katie Smyth, students in kindergarten through second grade participated in a variety of fun and meaningful fundraising activities throughout the school year. From seasonal holiday sales and classroom coin challenges to after-school paint classes and the ever-popular Ice Cream Fridays, each event encouraged students to work together while learning the importance of compassion, service and giving back to others.
The funds will support Ronald McDonald House Long Island’s mission of providing temporary housing, comfort and care for families with children receiving medical treatment, helping them remain close to their loved ones during some of life’s most challenging moments.
The achievement reflects the values embraced throughout the Malverne School District while demonstrating that even its youngest students can make a lasting difference.
By working together in support of an important cause, the students showed that kindness, generosity and teamwork can have a meaningful impact on the lives of others while helping foster a lifelong commitment to community service.
