The Nassau County Legislature approved a $146,000 Community Revitalization Project grant on July 27 to help the West Hempstead Water District purchase a new service vehicle, backhoe and other equipment used to maintain and improve the district’s water system.

The funding was secured by Nassau County Legislator John Giuffré, whose district formally included West Hempstead. According to the water district, the new equipment will improve its ability to respond to water main breaks, perform routine maintenance more efficiently and strengthen the reliability of the drinking water system, which serves about 32,000 residents.

Assistant Superintendent Frederick Kurz said the investment will enhance the district’s infrastructure while improving emergency preparedness and ensuring the continued delivery of safe drinking water.
