A vehicle and a Town of Hempstead sanitation truck collided on Nov. 10 near Babylon Turnpike and Meadowbrook Road. No one was injured, but the crash ruptured the truck’s diesel fuel tank, and Nassau County’s Hazardous Materials Response Division was called to clean up the spill, according to Ron Luparello, spokesman for the Merrick Fire Department.

Workers for Hogan Plumbing and Heating, Inc. struck a natural gas pipe last Friday afternoon behind Merrick Shopping Center, according to Don Hogan, the company’s owner. The Merrick Fire Department evacuated more than a dozen houses near the shopping center, and the Nassau County Police Department shut down a block of Merrick Road, but officials quickly determined that there was no danger.
