The U.S. Maritime Administration and Coast Guard held a public hearing about Port Ambrose, a proposed liquefied natural gas terminal in the Atlantic Ocean 18.5 miles southeast of Jones Beach, last Wednesday night in a ballroom at the Hilton New York JFK Airport in Jamaica, Queens. Port Ambrose opponents, who have assembled into a “No LNG Coalition,” conducted a press conference immediately before the hearing, drawing a few dozen people into a small hotel meeting room feet away from the ballroom.

Roberta Sanders, at 86, was teacher, trustee
Roberta Joan (Frost) Sanders died peacefully at home at the age of 86. She and her husband raised their family in Merrick, where Sanders was a resident for more than 40 years and was active in many civic and community activities, including serving on the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Board of Education. more
