The baseball season officially opened for the North Bellmore-North Merrick Little League last weekend. The annual kick-off parade was held on Saturday, and started behind Saw Mill Road School and ended at Gunther Field.

At 3:40 p.m. on Feb. 5, a 911 call was placed from the Rite Aid Pharmacy on Merrick Road in Bellmore. Two young women had allegedly stolen items from the store, authorities said. Nicole Castillo, 21, of Bellmore and Nicole Hughes, 22, of East Meadow, got into a 1998 Chrysler Sebring driven by Christopher Castillo, 23, of North Bellmore.

A car accident near Beach Drive and Merrick Road in Merrick closed about a quarter-mile of the westbound traffic lane on Merrick Road for more than three hours last Wednesday morning, sources said.
Tim Rogers, owner of A Merrick A Vac, on the north side of Merrick Road, just east of Beach Drive and west of McDonald's, said a car flipped over in front of his store in the early morning, taking out a Long Island Power Authority pole and causing unknown injuries to the driver.
