Aqua New York, the private water company providing water to the Merricks and Bellmores, announced that trace levels of trichloroethylene, or TCE, were detected near one of Aqua’s wells on Seaman’s Neck Road in Levittown. The levels were lower than the Department of Health’s allowance in drinking water standards. more

Kevin Brennan, a New York City police officer and a 2001 Mepham High School graduate, was shot in the head while chasing a suspect in a Brooklyn housing development at around 9 p.m. on Jan. 31, but survived and is now in stable condition, according to a New York City Police Department spokesperson. more
