Bellmore-Merrick budget approved; Merrick, North Merrick's budgets also pass

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s $188 million budget was approved by voters on May 16, with over 2,500 votes in favor of it. 

Schools effected include Grand Avenue and Merrick Avenue Middle Schools and John F. Kennedy, Sanford H. Calhoun and Wellington C. Mepham High Schools.

"The 2023 budget has passed," the district wrote in a release to the Herald. "Thank you Bellmore-Merrick community."

The Merrick Union Free School District’s budget of $58 million passed with 711 votes in favor and 290 votes against it. Board of Education trustees Jill Levine and Nicole Venditti, who were running unopposed, were both re-elected for another term with 747 and 573 votes respectively.

The elementary schools affected by this outcome include Birch School, Chatterton School and Norman J. Levy Lakeside School.

In the North Merrick Union Free School District, Board of Education trustees Tracey Miller and Ed Corona were re-elected, with 406 and 422 votes respectively. Their seats were also uncontested.

"Congratulations to (the) Board of Education members who were re-elected," the Central District said.


North Merrick's $38 million budget passed with 373 votes in favor and 232 votes against it. Schools affected include Camp Avenue, Old Mill Road and Harold D. Fayette Elementary Schools.

Each of the three budgets promise to uphold educational standards in Merrick's schools, while also adding things to curriculum that better the overall learning atmosphere at every grade level.
