Mepham alumni hold a magazine party

Posted

On a recent hot summer evening, Mepham High School alumni joined together in the school cafeteria for a class reunion of sorts – over 60 years in the making.

Former Mepham students, some of whom graduated as early as 1941, met up for the Scuttlebutt magazine’s “mailing party.” Led by editor Clare Eastwood Worthing, class of ’46, and her husband, Jerry Worthing, the production manager and a ’41 graduate, the team labeled and bundled the magazines for mailing to more than 2,000 members.

Scuttlebutt magazine is one of two annual publications produced by the alumni. The magazine includes news about Mepham and alumni activities, and also contains over 100 photos per issue.

The alumni association’s other publication, Quarterdeck, is mailed annually to more than 17,000 alumni at the beginning of the calendar year.

The 2011 Scuttlebutt magazine will commemorate sports coaches of Mepham’s past, and will include news of what more than 120 alumni are doing today. For a full preview, go to http://www.mepham.org/preview.html

The Mepham Alumni Association is one of a handful of alumni associations on Long Island, and encourages all Mepham graduates to join. Alumni can show their support by sending checks for $15 or more.  Indicate your graduation year and maiden name on the memo line. Individual donations of $25 or more and couple donations of $50 or more will be listed in Quarterdeck. Mail your check to the Mepham High School Alumni Association, 2401 Camp Ave., Bellmore N.Y.  11710.
