Merrick students honored in foreign language contest

The Merrick School District recently took part in National Foreign Language Week. Students in grades three to six, all of whom are taking Spanish, voluntarily participated in the national "Spread Your Wings: Learn a New Language" poster and essay contest.

At Levy-Lakeside, where most children did posters, 30 students were named winners by their Spanish teacher, Toni Allen. They are:

Third Grade


Winners: Emily Turner, Marco Travaglione, Chloe Ott, Isaac Grama.
Honorable Mention: Claudia Dreyer, Rebecca Cortez, Emma Gold.



Fourth Grade

Winners: Isabelle Infuso, Alexandra Brinton, Katy Shapiro, Shelby Meyerhoff.

Honorable Mention: Tian Colby, Jordan Kuhn.

Fifth Grade

Winners: Jillian Wolfson, Giana Kapsoozian, Michelle Steinberg, Marisa Pellegrino.

Honorable Mention: Ronni Schweitzer, Yonaton Shelowitz, Justin Seidman, Chloe Abramovich, Alexa Cohen, Steven Vacnin, Alicia Abramson.

Sixth Grade

Winners: Nicole Imhof, Alexis Tillman, Blake Fisher, Jackie Morgan, Yasmine Solomon, Samantha Safdieh.
