Hola Island Park

As part of the Island Park School District’s continued commitment to enhancing learning opportunities for all students, children in grades K through 6 participate in the Foreign Language in the Elementary School (FLES) program. In addition to their routine curriculum studies, students receive Spanish language instruction. First graders, for example, learn the names of the four seasons, twelve months of the year, days of the week, and how to respond to basic questions. They are also taught the words to a song in Spanish. FLES/Spanish Teacher Irlanda Feil is shown here using flash cards to teach first graders in Mrs. Bauer’s class at Francis X. Hegarty School how to count to 10.
