Plane upsets O’side neighbors

Oceanside resident Harold Guretzky likes to fly. He is a student pilot who used to keep his airplane at Republic Airport, where they charged him $150 per day. Not wanting to continue to pay those fees, the 69-year old had his plane, a Cessna 152, dismantled, brought to his home and reassembled, where it now sits on his Yale Street driveway.

Not only are some of Guretzky’s neighbors not pleased, but the Town of Hempstead’s Department of Buildings has issued him several tickets, and he faces a $2,500 summons for not having a permit to park the plane. Facing a Sept. 29 court date, he plans to fight the summons.

According to Town of Hempstead spokesman Michael Caputo, Guretzky had not filed for any variances from the zoning board as of press time.

Guretzky owns an aircraft radio company in Queens, and repairs radios and televisions doing some of the work in his home. He has two large antennas in his back yard, 30 and 60 feet tall, which he uses for radio transmissions. They also irk his neighbors, and have earned him citations from the town.

To make matters worse, neighbors are now upset about the curiosity seekers who stop by to see the plane, many of whom take selfies with it.
