Riverhead Building Supply is set to acquire certain assets of Contractor Express, expanding the company’s presence and capabilities across Nassau County’s South Shore, the companies announced Aug. 19.

Founded in Oceanside in 1981 by the Lucas family, Contractor Express is a full-service lumber and building materials dealer that has built a strong reputation among contractors and customers throughout the South Shore.

Riverhead Building Supply, a family-owned company with more than 75 years in the industry, operates 21 full-service lumberyards and two Lakeville Kitchen & Bath showrooms across New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Riverhead’s ability to serve customers throughout the South Shore while building on the relationships and reputation Contractor Express has established during its 45 years in business.

Bob Lucas, president of Contractor Express, said the companies share similar values and a commitment to customer service.

“Riverhead has built a reputation on quality, service, and a large, accessible inventory,” Lucas said. “They understand the importance of good people taking good care of customers. These values have been central to the success of Contractor Express for the past 45 years. There is a strong alignment between our companies.”

John Callahan, president of Riverhead Building Supply, said the acquisition will allow the company to build on Contractor Express’ existing customer relationships and expertise.

“Contractor Express is a strong company with a loyal customer base that values its expertise, dependable service, and commitment to getting it right the first time,” Callahan said. “We are excited to welcome Contractor Express to our team and build on the strong legacy of the Lucas family.”

Callahan also credited Contractor Express employees for their role in the company’s success.

“This acquisition strengthens our ability to serve this market, supported by the talented Contractor Express employees,” he said.

The transaction is expected to close in September following the completion of due diligence.

Upon completion of the transition, Lucas plans to retire after 48 years in the lumber and building materials industry.

Riverhead Building Supply serves builders, contractors, architects and homeowners throughout Long Island, Eastern Connecticut, Rhode Island and the greater Boston area. The company said its focus on customer service, knowledgeable employees and a large inventory has helped establish its position in the markets it serves.
