A Valley Stream man was arrested in connection with two fatal stabbings in Island Park and Valley Stream that occurred hours apart on Friday, Nassau County police said.
Detectives said Rony Yahir Alvarenga Rivera, 22, of West Mineola Avenue, was arrested by Lynbrook police following an investigation linking him to both killings.
Police said officers first responded shortly after midnight Friday to a 911 call at Wendy’s on Austin Boulevard in North Long Beach, where they found a 42-year-old woman stabbed outside the restaurant. She was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County police medic.
About three hours later, officers responding to a well-check request from Lynbrook police at a West Mineola Avenue residence in Valley Stream discovered a 32-year-old woman stabbed inside the home. She was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of either victim.
Alvarenga Rivera was charged with first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder. He was scheduled to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead. Police said the Homicide Squad’s investigation into both incidents is ongoing.
As of May 5, the two females have been identified as Ana Maria Del Aguila Cordova, 42 of Long Beach and Eddy Raquel Hernandez Castillo, 32 of Valley Stream.
