That spirit was on full display recently here in Amityville, during our cleanup efforts at Avon Lake and Peterkin Park. On a recent Saturday morning, residents of all ages came together with one common goal: to improve and protect the places we all share. Volunteers trimmed overgrowth, raked debris, collected litter, cleaned playground areas and helped restore two of our treasured natural spaces. Neighbors who may have never met before spent the morning talking, laughing and working toward a common purpose. more
While it is true that we can’t fully describe many of the challenges in the world ahead, we certainly know enough to structure engaging and student-centered learning activities that help students develop a prosilient mindset. In fact, open and more conceptual statements of problems or challenges yield far more enjoyable, collaborative and thought-provoking learning opportunities. more
This week, we came together for a Memorial Day ceremony, even though the rain prevented us from holding our annual parade. Memorial Day reminds us of the sacrifices made to preserve our freedoms, and it was heartening to see our community once again gather in remembrance. more
Swastikas have appeared in New York City parks and public spaces. Protesters openly praised Hamas after the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre, the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust, in which terrorists murdered families, kidnapped civilians, raped women and burned innocent people alive. more

I want to be clear that my administration is not opposed to growth. We understand the need for more housing, including more affordable housing, to ensure that the next generation can stay on Long Island. But growth must be thoughtful, balanced and locally driven.
