Dressed in their green and white gowns, 125 Locust Valley High School seniors walked the stage at the school’s Fred Smith Field as they graduated on June 25. Classmates, friends, family and teachers were in attendance for the ceremony.
Following performances of “Pomp and Circumstance” and “The Star-Spangled Banner,” Principal Patrick DiClemente and Board of Education President George Vasiliou spoke about the impact the class left on the school community and the future that lies ahead for graduates.
“Your leadership and unity defined a high school experience marked by stellar academic achievement, impactful community service and meaningful mentorship with our elementary and middle school students,” DiClemente said. “You cultivated a positive culture.”
The graduating class received several academic and community service accolades. Sixty-three students were named to the National Honor Society, 55 earned a New York State Seal of Civic Readiness, 41 received a diploma with distinction and three won National Merit Scholarships.
Class president Liam Baker, student speaker Gianna Craft and valedictorian Justin Kwok received Excellence medals, and each addressed the graduates. Superintendent Kristen Turnow spoke about finding peace in times of change before presenting graduates with their diplomas.
