Town of Oyster Bay chooses S.T.O.P and homeowners cleanup days

Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Tom Hand have announced the dates for the town’s Stop Throwing Out Pollutants program and Homeowners Cleanup Day for this summer. Residents can drop off materials at the Old Bethpage Solid Waste Disposal Complex at 101 Bethpage-Sweet Hollow Road, Old Bethpage.

The dates for the S.T.O.P. program will be July 11 and Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hazardous materials like asbestos material, car batteries and tires, brake and transmission fluids, and more will be  collected during the program..

Homeowners Cleanup Day will be July 25 and Aug. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. non-hazardous waste is collected on these days. This includes air conditioners, e-waste, campers, clean and broken concrete, large metal items, propane tanks and propane torches, tires, yard waste and boats and boat trailers with fluids and batteries removed. Proof of ownership is required to drop off a boat or boat trailer.

Free paper shredding services will be provided from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 25 and Aug. 22. Residents can bring up to four bankers’ boxes of paper to the program. Businesses may not participate.

The S.T.O.P. and Homeowners Cleanup Day programs are open to residents within the town’s Waste Disposal District, and proof of residency is required.
