In 1896, there was no Department of Public Works in Lynbrook (the DPW was formed in 1928).
This item came from the Brooklyn Eagle:
“Lynbrook, L.I. March 4, [a Friday] All the able-bodied men in the neighborhood were set to work this morning on Union Avenue shoveling out the great snowbanks which have blocked travel since Sunday night. Many roads are still impassible.”
