What happens after Atlantic Beach village trustee tie?

Following the results of the Village of Atlantic Beach elections on June 18, the process to decide the winner between incumbent Trustee Edward A. Sullivan and  Anthony Livreri is yet to get under way.

Initially, the Nassau County Board of Elections conducts a recount, said Wade Deltramo, general counsel for the New York Conference of Mayors.

According to Article 15 of state election law, if the two parties agree the decision can be determined by lot (coin flip, by straw) if not there is a run-off election, according to Kathleen McGrath, of the New York Board of Elections.

Run-offs are held the first Tuesday after the certification of the election at least 10 days after the final certification, McGrath said.
