Joseph Richard “Dick” Bolger, formerly of Merrick, who taught music to generations of students in Bellmore, Great Neck, Delaware and Pennsylvania, died peacefully on Jan. 30 at home in Palatine, Ill. He was 96.

Vocal music teacher Michelle Lindsley broke the news that she is suffering from multiple myeloma, a bone marrow cancer, to one of her star students, Robbie Rosen, during a lesson at her home studio. “Michelle has given so much of herself to me, her students and colleagues,” Rosen said. “I remember thinking I have to give back some way.”

Roberta Joan (Frost) Sanders died peacefully at home at the age of 86. She and her husband raised their family in Merrick, where Sanders was a resident for more than 40 years and was active in many civic and community activities, including serving on the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Board of Education.
