Breakfast with Santa The highly popular Breakfast with Santa’s Helpers — a standard of the holiday season in Rockville Centre, is set for this Sunday, Dec. 12 at the Recreation Center with seatings at 9:15, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. All faiths are invited to join the elves who serve pancakes, cereal, juice, milk, rolls and bagels. After eating Vixen’s Fixins, kids may visit with Santa or have a picture taken with Rudolph and Frosty. The deadline for tickets is this Friday, — Dec. 10 — at the Rec Center. The fee is $6 per person. MERCY to illuminate its ‘Tree of Lights’ The Council of Leagues of Mercy Medical Center invites the community to join in the annual Tree of Lights holiday celebration on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. The ceremony provides the opportunity to recall the need to grow stronger together in the search for peace, with the Tree of Lights representing a beacon of hope and unity in a fragmented world. The blessing and lighting of the tree will take place in front of the hospital, followed by refreshments served in the Main Lobby. Proceeds from the Tree of Lights will support the acquisition of a new electrocardiogram (EKG) machine, to provide Mercy’s patients with the latest state-of-the-art technology for monitoring electrical activity of the heart. Lights can be purchased for the tree in memory of a loved one, in celebration of a special event, or in honor of a special person, with remembrances recorded in a Tree of Lights book that will be displayed in the hospital’s main lobby during the Christmas season. A special Mass will be held at noon in the hospital chapel on Jan. 11 for all those remembered in the Tree of Lights. To purchase a memorial light or for information about the Mass, call the League Office at (516) 705-1833. Signs of the season Last weekend St. Mark’s United Methodist Church on Hempstead Avenue kicked off another fundraiser — its second annual Christmas tree and wreath sale. With the help of volunteers and staff from the Atwell Brothers, the church will offer approximately 500 trees for sale. On every weekend during December from 1 to 3 p.m., local Girl Scouts will regal shoppers with Christmas carols and offer free baked goods and hot chocolate.
