Woodmere Tempo marks 50 years

For 50 years, the Tempo Group/Tempo Youth, in Woodmere, has been treating people with addiction issues from across Nassau County. The nonprofit counseling center now has an office in the Bellmore-Merrick School District, which opened in 1995, and one in Syosset, which opened in 2007. more

Members of the Hempstead Town Board unanimously decided to get out in front of impending recreational marijuana legalization at the state level. With a vote of 7-0, the Town Board enacted a moratorium of one year on the sale of pot within the town, and a ban on smoking it in town parks and facilities. more

Clavin to challenge Gillen in November

Surrounded by dozens of supporters, Town of Hempstead Receiver of Taxes Donald Clavin on Feb. 19 announced his candidacy for Hempstead Town supervisor. “We need a supervisor that will put the priority on keeping residents in their home,” said Clavin, a Republican, outside Ancona’s Pizzeria in his hometown of Valley Stream. “We need taxpayers first.” more
