Gonsalves, Kraus vie for L.D. 13

Norma Gonsalves, a Republican from East Meadow is running for reelection to represent the 13th Legislative District against Democratic challenger Ed Kraus, a firefighter from North Bellmore. Gonsalves, who has held the position since 1998, became the Legislature’s Presiding Officer in 2012. Kraus has been in the North Bellmore Fire Department since 2004, is a former chief of department, and current fire commissioner. The 13th Legislative District includes East Meadow, North Bellmore, North Merrick, and parts of Seaford and Wantagh. more

A private company controlled by a multi-billion-dollar Canadian hedge fund is seeking approval to build a liquefied natural gas station in the Atlantic Ocean 17 nautical miles southeast of Jones Beach. The North Merrick School District is planning a “beautification project” to spruce up the exterior of the Fayette School. Norma Gonsalves, presiding officer of the Nassau County Legislature, obtained $25,000 in county tax dollars for the project.

Local politicians allocate grants to North Merrick schools

The North Merrick School District is the recent recipient of several grants that will help it pay for new computers and security upgrades in each of its of three schools as well as an exterior beautification project at Fayette. The grants consist of tax revenue that State Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr. and Norma Gonsalves, presiding officer of the Nassau County Legislature, allocated for the district. more
