Last Thursday was prom night, and before the dance got under way, seniors from all three Bellmore-Merrick high schools –– Calhoun, Kennedy and Mepham –– held their own pre-prom celebrations at one another’s homes, as is tradition.

Calhoun High School may be full of model students, but on one recent evening, the school was full of student models.
On that Thursday, Calhoun turned on its spotlights on a fashion show to benefit Invisible Children, a nonprofit organization that works to spread awareness about Ugandan militant Joseph Kony and his rebel group, the Lord’s Resistance Army.

It can be said that every blizzard starts with a single snowflake. Trying to transfer that onto the baseball diamond would be a little tough, because it’s hard to say exactly which base hit has led to Calhoun burying its recent opponents with an avalanche of runs.
