Longtime Rockville Centre resident Seymour Berger — Sy to his friends — died in his home on Dec. 14, of natural causes. He was 91. Berger is credited with reinventing the Topps baseball card in the 1950s, turning it into the collectible that it is today. Sitting at the kitchen table in his former home in the Bronx, he sketched out the idea for the modern baseball card: a color picture of the player on the front, along with the team logo and the player’s signature, and the player’s vital statistics on the back of the card. more
