Stefan Serie, a Merrick Avenue Middle School health teacher and multi-sport coach who recently lost his job, apparently because of his appearance on the Bravo TV series “Princesses Long Island,” is threatening to sue the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District if he doesn’t get his position back.

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District is moving ahead with plans for a bond referendum to repair science laboratories, bathrooms and athletic fields, and according to district architect Roger Smith, the referendum could be put to a vote as soon as November.

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced Monday that a former county Police Department deputy commissioner has been sentenced to jail after he was convicted on charges in connection with his role in preventing the arrest of a Merrick teenager whose father was a personal friend and financial benefactor of the police.

At Calhoun High School’s graduation ceremony last Sunday, there was no principal’s address. David Seinfeld gave up his time to a senior who he said continues to inspire the class of 2013, even though his time at Calhoun is over: Dean Brownworth.
Brownworth and the rest of Bellmore-Merrick’s seniors celebrated their high school experiences while looking forward to the future at commencement exercises for Calhoun, Kennedy and Mepham on Sunday.

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District will not install synthetic-turf athletic fields in 2013-14, Marion Blane, the Board of Education president, said at a June 5 meeting. But synthetic-turf fields are under board consideration for subsequent years, she said.
