A North Bellmore man was charged in a recent statewide gun-show investigation by Attorney General A.G. Schneiderman. Sam Savino of North Bellmore was one of 10 people arrested for failing to conduct required background checks before selling firearms. Savino is the only defendant from Nassau County charged in “Operation Background Bust.” more

The Bellmores marked Veterans Day with two ceremonies on Nov. 11. Members of American Legion Post No. 948 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2770 held the ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park off Bedford Avenue in Bellmore Village. North Bellmore American Legion Post No. 1749 hosted its annual Veterans Day ceremony at the monument in front of Newbridge Road Elementary School. more

At 11:36 p.m. on Sunday, Nassau County Police received a call that shots were fired at 925 East Meadow Ave. in North Bellmore. At the shooting site, officers found Hasan Kaya, 49, lying on the front stoop, bleeding heavily from multiple gunshot wounds, said Detective Lt. John Azzata. Kaya was rushed to Nassau University Hospital in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead. more

On May 18, 2008, one second forever altered Jacy Good’s life when a tractor-trailer slammed head-on into her family’s station wagon, carrying the then 21-year-old and her parents, Jay and Jean. The truck swerved to avoid a mini-van, driven by an 18-year-old who, according to officials, was engrossed in a cell-phone call. The teen sped through a red light in Maidencreek, Township, Pa., apparently oblivious to the road before him. more
